Oil change in Star, ID
Conventional or full synthetic, a fair price, and a straight answer on how often you actually need one.
How often should you change your oil?
Most cars need an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Run full synthetic and you can usually stretch it further, sometimes to 10,000, depending on the car and how you drive. Short winter hops around Star and towing are harder on oil, so those cars come in sooner.
Not sure where yours falls? Tell us the vehicle and we'll give you a straight interval, no guessing. It lands in the same window as a tire rotation, so a lot of folks knock both out in one stop.
Which oil does your car need?
Newer engines and most turbos call for full synthetic. Older, higher-mileage engines often run fine on conventional or a synthetic blend, and there's no reason to pay for more than the car needs. We run what your manufacturer specifies and tell you the honest trade-off. It's the same no-upsell approach we bring to brake work and every other job in the shop.
If your car is past 150,000 miles, we'll walk you through the choice instead of pushing the priciest jug on the shelf.
We rotate your tires and look the car over
An oil change is also the easy time to catch small stuff early. While the car is up we eyeball the belts, hoses, and fluids, and we'll test your battery if it has been slow to start in the cold. Anything that needs attention, we call you first. We never add a part without a yes.
Star Tire isn't a quick-lube. We're a full tire and auto repair shop, so if the look-over turns up something real, we can fix it right here instead of sending you down the road.
Free estimates, and we call before we touch anything
Estimates are free and the number we quote is the number you pay, no shop fees sprung on you at the counter. If the courtesy look-over finds something, we call and explain it before we do a thing. Got questions first? Our FAQ covers timing, pricing, and whether synthetic is worth it. Or send us your vehicle and we'll get you a quote.
What we look over during an oil change
- Oil and filter changed with what your car actually calls for.
- Belts and hoses eyeballed for cracks and wear.
- The fluids topped and checked: coolant, brake, washer, power steering.
- Tire pressure set right and tread checked, ready for a rotation if it is due.
- Anything that needs work, we call you with the price before we start.

Dan and his team are awesome. Very reasonable and they do great work. They are always busy, but still manage to help you out in a timely manner. I strongly recommend if you are looking for dependable auto service outside of dealerships.

Questions, answered straight
How often should I change my oil?
Most cars on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes; conventional oil is closer to 3,000 to 5,000. We will check what your car actually calls for and tell you, not just sell you the shortest interval.
Do I need synthetic oil?
It depends on your car. Many newer engines are built for synthetic and will say so in the owner’s manual. Synthetic costs a little more but goes longer between changes and holds up better in heat and cold. We will check what your car calls for and tell you honestly, not just sell you the pricier oil.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome for tires and most repairs. If it is a large job or you need a specific tire size pulled, call ahead at (208) 286-9245 and we will have it ready.
Bring it by the corner.
Bring it in and we will tell you what it needs and what it does not, with the price up front.
